Osprey Charging has been selected by Dacorum Borough Council to bring its ultra-rapid charging devices to the Hertfordshire borough.

30 new rapid and ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charge points are to be installed in eight public car parks across Dacorum.

The sites are strategically located throughout the area in Tring, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Markyate, and Kings Langley and will be 100% funded by Osprey, with no local council funding required.

The locations have been selected via Osprey's spatial analysis and site selection process, ensuring that the number of residents within 15 minutes of a rapid EV charger is maximised.

The first of the new Osprey rapid charging locations is now open at The Forge in Tring and at the High Street in Hemel Hempstead.

An ultra-rapid charging hub, equipped with 6x 300kW chargers, is planned for the Water Gardens (South) car park in central Hemel Hempstead.

At Osprey’s rapid charging sites, drivers can add up to 100 miles of range with a short 35-minute charge, and at the ultra-rapid hub, with an even quicker 15-20-minute charge (depending on the battery size and charging capacity of your vehicle).

Osprey charge points are designed to be simple to use, payment methods include contactless and Zap-Pay via debit/credit card and Apple/Google Pay.

Zap-Pay enabled Connected Kerb AC fast charging devices will be installed alongside the Osprey charge points at some sites to offer additional charging options to drivers where a  slower charge could be more convenient depending on length of stay.

The collaborative effort between Osprey and Connected Kerb won the bid for the project in part due to their outstanding track record of customer satisfaction and their deep understanding of Dacorum Borough Council's local residents' needs.

“Our partnership with Dacorum Borough Council is a great example of how local authorities and charge point operators can work together to deliver reliable, accessible and high-quality public EV charging for local residents, businesses and visitors,” said Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging.

“We are delighted to be working with the Council to make charging more readily available for EV drivers in Hertfordshire and near the M25 (North).

“As recognised by our winning bid, each of our new locations is carefully designed to maximise ease-of-use, accessibility and above all an excellent customer experience of charging, working to the latest and highest standards.”

Osprey is a Zapmap Live data partner, meaning that users of the Zapmap app can access live status and availability information of every Osprey charge point.

“Tackling climate change is one of our six corporate priorities, and ensuring the residents of Dacorum have access to EV charging is central to this,” said Cllr Adrian England, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio holder for Climate Action and Opportunity at Dacorum Borough Council.

“Rapid and ultra-rapid charging provision is expensive and so the 100% funding from Osprey Charging is particularly important for us; this investment into our area requires no local council funding.

“The carefully chosen locations mean we can provide access across the entirety of the borough.

“Our partnership with Osprey Charging and Connected Kerb will give Dacorum the highest number of public charging points of any district in Hertfordshire, putting us in the top 20% nationwide.”
