Zap-Map was announced yesterday as winner of the Whole Energy System Innovation award at this year’s Green Energy Awards, hosted by Regen, a leading centre of expertise in the transition to net zero energy.
The Green Energy Awards, now in their nineteenth year, are a leading national celebration of innovative technologies, pioneering companies, and inspiring individuals shaking up the energy system and driving towards a zero carbon future.
After more than 120 nominations were judged by a panel of experts, a shortlist of finalists was revealed last month, with the winners announced last night at the sell-out ceremony hosted in the Bath Assembly Rooms. The ceremony itself highlighted the critical role of the clean energy sector in addressing the current energy crisis.
“The 2022 Green Energy Awards showcased the extraordinary range of innovative zero carbon solutions available and the pioneering individuals committed to bringing them forward,” said Merlin Hyman, chief executive, Regen.
“The inspiring award winners and nominees demonstrate we have the ability to end our addiction to fossil fuels and will, I hope, galvanise us all to take even bolder action towards net zero.”
Zap-Map was one of a number of winners announced at the ceremony, which was hosted by Regen and sponsored by specialist grid consultancy Roadnight Taylor.
The Whole Energy System Innovation award recognises the role of innovative technology, products and services in the development of the whole energy system for a zero carbon future. It does because, as Regen puts it, transforming our energy system requires innovative, bold and often disruptive new thinking. The award also seeks to reward solutions that tackle whole system issues in new but scalable ways.
“I’m delighted to see Zap-Map winning another award, especially one as prestigious as Regen’s Whole Energy System Innovation award. It was a pleasure to attend the ceremony and share the room with so many committed people, all of whom are driving us ever closer to a zero carbon future,” said Alex Earl, Commercial Director at Zap-Map.
“To have Zap-Map’s contribution to the energy transition recognised in such a way is testament to the hard work the team puts in every day.”

With transport currently representing 27% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, there is an urgent need to transition towards a zero emission transport system. Zap-Map, whose mission is to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles and help the drive towards zero carbon mobility, was recognised as a key facilitator in this transition.
In part, this came from Zap-Map’s role as a digital platform, creating tangible benefits by – amongst other things – providing utilisation data to support grid services and charge point installation, opening up more home chargers for public use through Zap-Home, and supplying data and statistics to a range of stakeholders to better inform analysis, decisions and policymaking.
It was also due to Zap-Map’s role in giving drivers the information and confidence they need to adopt electric vehicles sooner.
Indeed, Regen described Zap-Map as “an easy-to-use app encouraging the uptake of EVs through data sharing. The app allows EV drivers to search for available charge points, plan longer electric journeys, pay for charging and share updates with other EV drivers.”
