Volvo has unveiled the V90 estate which continues the Swedish firm’s roll-out of green technology with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version included in the line-up. The stylish estate is based on the same architecture as the S90 saloon and not only brings a large Volvo estate back to the forefront of its class, but also offers class leading efficiency figures.
The V90 will be available with Volvo’s T8 TwinEngine plug-in powertrain as already fitted to the XC90 and already confirmed for thr forthcoming S90 saloon. This will use a 320hp 2.0 litre petrol engine and 65kW electric motor to return 134.5 MPG (weighted combined) and emit just 47 g/km CO2. Electric range is set to be more than 28 miles, with charging times for the 9.2kWh lithium ion battery, located centrally in the transmission tunnel, ranging from six to 2.5 hours, depending on connection.
As the new flagship estate, Volvo has also fitted the V90 with a number of high tech safety systems. The IntelliSafe system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, semi-autonomous Pilot Assist, Lane Keeping Aid, Run-off Road Mitigation, Run-off Road Protection and Lane Departure Warning as standard, along with Volvo’s City Safety package. An all-round camera, Park Pilot Assist, Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Information system are all available too.
There is the option of a surround sound Bowers and Wilkins system, Swedish crystal gear selector, and the Sensus infotainment system that fully integrates with smartphones and is set up for increased connectivity in the future.
The new V90 will be available to buy later in the year, with further specification details made available closer to the on-sale date.
