Electric vehicle charging points have recently been installed at two new locations in Sheffield, thanks to the Inmotion scheme running across South Yorkshire.
The new fast EV charging points are located at Carver Street in the City Centre and Parkers Lane, Broomhill. The units, which both have a type 2 mennekes connection, will allow electric cars to charge fully in under 4 hours.
Fifteen charging points are planned to be installed across South Yorkshire over the next 12 months through the Inmotion scheme, after the county was awarded £225,000 from the Government.
Councillor Jayne Dunn, cabinet member for environment, recycling and Streetscene in Sheffield, said: “The charging point in Broomhill is the first to be installed in the suburbs.
“Broomhill has a problem with air pollution, so it’s brilliant the scheme has decided to put one of the charge points in this area.
“It’s close to hospitals and the universities and is also a busy retail area, as well as a residential area.”
Mark Daly, Sheffield Council sustainable development officer, said: “We are putting in 15 points across South Yorkshire and have applied to the Government for more funding to put more in.”
The EV Inmotion scheme is a partnership between Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield councils and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.
So far all the points installed are completely free to use although in general parking charges do still apply.
