Nissan has announced that its next generation Leaf will feature the company’s ProPILOT autonomous driving technology.
Already showcased on a heavily modified current generation Leaf, ProPILOT will first be available on the new Nissan Qashqai. From here Nissan will roll it out on to other new models, with the new Leaf due for launch later this year.
ProPILOT allows the car to drive itself semi-autonomously to meet current legislation. At the press of a button, ProPILOT lets the Leaf drive itself in single-lane conditions.
The steering, accelerator and brakes are all controlled by the car, which helps take the strain away from the driver in heavy traffic or long commutes.
Nissan already has plans to offer increasing levels of autonomy over the coming years, as regulations come into force that allow self-driving cars to be used on public roads.
