The AA has begun switching its breakdown response vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) as it continues to decarbonise its business.
Typically AA’s driver’s return home with their vans after their working shifts, so these e-vans can be charged overnight, so the company has turned to EV charging provider Mer to install reliable and user-friendly home charging infrastructure.
The AA also required EV chargers that were compatible with Mina Homecharge. This is a software platform which ensures that employees don’t pay for charging work vehicles at home, as the employer is billed directly.
“For our roll-out of electric patrol vans we needed a partner who could make the entire process simple and hassle-free for our drivers,” said Simon Ungless, group fleet manager for the AA.
“Mer is able to provide an end-to-end solution, from procurement and installation to service and repair.
“Every installation to date, including my own, has been very smooth and straightforward.”
7kW slow charge points are installed, which enable a full charge overnight.
“We are extremely proud to be supporting the AA’s roll-out of all-electric first response vehicles,” said Emma Spark, head of business charging for Mer.
“While this is an ongoing process, we are already working with other elements of the AA to look at further expanding our relationship.”
Public Mer charge points are Zap-Pay enabled, meaning that you can pay for your Mer powered EV charging sessions via the Zapmap app - find Mer charge points by using the network filter.
