Rapid chargers will be installed across Mid-Devon, after the region’s District Council signed an agreement with InstaVolt for eight new charge points.

The units will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis, and offer the three main rapid charging standards for drivers – CCS, CHAdeMO, and Type 2 AC. These will charge an EV from 0-80% in around 30 minutes, at either a maximum of 50kW for CCS and CHAdeMO vehicles, or 43kW for Type 2 AC models.

The chargers will cover a region that is largely lacking in rapid charge points, with only those on the M5 available to those in the area. Both domestic and business users will be able to charge at them too, as the council looks to improve air quality in the region and reduce carbon emissions.

Tim Payne, CEO of InstaVolt, said: “Mid Devon District Council is pioneering in its use of green technologies and we’re delighted to help them take this even further with the installation of rapid electric vehicle charging points.

“The use of electric vehicles is set to increase dramatically over the coming years and thanks to the council’s forward-thinking attitude, residents and visitors to Mid Devon can rest assured that they’ll be able to charge up quickly and easily if they adopt these eco-friendly vehicles.”

Councillor Ray Stanley, Cabinet Member for Housing at Mid Devon District Council, said: “We are committed to making Mid Devon an even better place to live, work and visit and the environment plays a big part in this. Creating the right infrastructure will help us to embrace the use of electric vehicles locally and improve air quality across the region.”
