Ford has confirmed that it is bringing back its Focus Electric – but this time the model will have rapid charging capability. The EV Focus will retain the same range as before but will now be able to be charged to 80 per cent capacity in around 30 minutes with a DC connector.
Other new features will help the driver get the most out of the Ford’s batteries. SmartGauge with EcoGuide will provide a range of customisable displays showing real-time power usage, while Brake Coach will help the driver brake smoothly to capture as much energy under braking as possible.
The new Focus Electric will go into production in late 2016 with Europe confirmed as getting the model.
The news comes as part of an announcement by Ford of an additional £3 billion worth of investment into EV technology. This will see expansion of battery and powertrain development, with an 13 new electric vehicles joining the model line-up between now and 2020. These will include some conventional hybrids, but plug-in hybrid and EVs will also be produced.
